Part 5-7 Sloth: The Sluggard

Proverbs 26:13-16, 6:6-11

Ps Denis Lu

What does Proverbs say about laziness, diligence, and wisdom? This sermon contrasts the sluggard and the ant, showing how excuses, idleness, and short-sightedness lead to poverty—while diligence, foresight, and stewardship honor God. Be inspired to work with purpose, steward your gifts, and follow Christ's example of faithful labor.

About this series

A sin is not just a mistake - it is destructive and leads to death.

Throughout history, Christians have recognised the seriousness of sin and sought to categorise its most dangerous forms. The most well-known of these is The Seven Deadly Sins: pride, greed, wrath, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth. While this list is not explicitly found in the Bible, it serves as a helpful tool to recognise sin in our lives.

In this series, we will explore each of the seven through biblical narratives - examining how they manifest, their consequences and ways to overcome them.

I. Lust: Joseph's seduction
II. Pride: Nebuchadnezzar's humbling
III. Wrath: Esau's fury
IV. Gluttony: Adam's temptation
V. Sloth: The Sluggard
VI. Greed: The rich young ruler's dilemma
VII. Envy: Ahab's obsession

Sin leads to death, but there is hope. Jesus offers us life! Through Him, we can overcome temptation and walk in victory, because He has already conquered sin and death!
